E il torchio nella celebre prima descrizione di Chr. Plantin
English abstract
There is a vast literature on the history of the press, but the lack of documentation and reproductions have limited research and studies on its origins. In this article, the first part discusses techniques preceding the press, i.e., the ancient Egyptian methods of oil extraction, up until the invention of the press, perhaps around the 3rd century BCE. Originally in China and Korea, printing followed the woodcut (rubbing) impression technique. In Europe, however, a revolution occurred with Gutenberg’s adaptation of the wine press to printing. The second part contains the transcription of Plantin’s famous text (The First and Second Parts of the Dialogues français pour l’enfant, 1567), which describes the activity of a printing house for the first time.
