Una biblioteca alla fine del mondo

Abstract

The article focuses on the Livroteca Brincante do Pina, located in one of the poorest areas (Pina favela) of the city of Recife, Brazil. Ricardo Gomes Ferraz, aged 35, better known as Kcal, poet and musician, opened a library in the shanty town. He calls himself a book-trafficker. The library has quickly become a meeting place for hundreds of children and adults. In April 2009, the Brazilian Minister of Culture, recognized the importance of this initiative. Thus a government project started which has seen the opening of many libraries in the favelas.
