Libri proibiti alla Biblioteca Civica di Torino

Stefania Bonamigo

Abstract

Several research in Turin archives, along with the application of documentary skills learned during academic studies, allowed the realization of the first bibliographical analysis of the two lists of censored books sent to the Civic Library of Turin in 1939. Thanks to comparative research on OPAC SBN and BCT, it turned out how many copies have survived to date, the reasons for their censorship and, for instance, how many authors had been censored for their Jewish origin. Thanks to the constant comparison between national and local analysis, the present paper intended to expose a first and summary example for future studies of censorship in Italian libraries during the fascist period, hoping that this can raise awareness of the value of our cultural heritage and its free accessibility.
