Abstract

The article explores the University Press landscape in Italy and the publishing services offered by the academic libraries to support the new scholarly communication system and the open dissemination of the research. The authors reflect on the ambiguous relationship between UP and academic libraries in Italy, on the multiform publishing services offered by the academic libraries (institutional repositories, publishing OJS platforms, publishing ebooks platforms, digitization services), on the rising of a new concept of University Press which adopts the Open Access business model as the core business model. The results of a survey carried out among the academic libraries in Italy to explore their publishing services are also discussed.
