L’archivio del CDEC - Centro di Documentazione Ebraica Contemporanea e la “cultura della memoria”

Laura Brazzo

Abstract

The contribution has a deliberately "historical" character and, based on concrete examples, shows how certain historical and social conditions have led to changes in the relationship between an archive and civil society. In particular, the history of the Centro di Documentazione Ebraica Contemporanea (CDEC) is analysed, from its birth in 1955 as the "Archive of the Resistance" to then establishing itself as a conservation institute of documents that denounce and testify to the persecutions suffered during fascism and the years of the Nazi-fascist occupation, up to the present day, in which the CDEC promotes initiatives for the dissemination of the history and culture of the Jews in Italy through the organization of exhibitions and activities in the field of education and training, with the purpose of affirming the concept of “permanent education”.
