Abstract

The recent serious calamitous events in Emilia-Romagna have once again highlighted the organizational difficulties of correct emergency management. In the current situation, many libraries, archives and museums have worked tirelessly, with the precious support of numerous volunteers, to secure the preserved assets. The most valuable materials were frozen pending the organization of suitable recovery operations. This practice, which is not new and has also been adopted in other disaster situations, proves to be indispensable for controlling microbial growth. Materials flooded in this way are stabilized. Subsequently, the most suitable drying and disinfection interventions will be estimated before the restoration phase.
