English abstract
This article starts from the overall evolution of Italian Library Science, which in recent decades has adopted and developed approaches and methodologies from other fields, thereby enhancing the profile of the discipline as a whole. In this context, it seems interesting to present and assess the possibilities of introducing Futures Studies into Library Science and their application within the library system. Futures Studies, also known as Futurology, refers to a meta-discipline whose goal is to anticipate major social, technological, and cultural changes in civilization, the so-called megatrends, and forecast their developments through the elaboration of scenarios. A comprehensive bibliography completes the document.
