Abstract
Lanciata nel marzo 2018 dall'imprenditore dei media Steven Brill e dall'ex editore del Wall Street Journal Gordon Crovitz, NewsGuard fornisce valutazioni di credibilità e "etichette nutrizionali" dettagliate per migliaia di siti web di notizie e informazioni. NewsGuard valuta tutti i siti web di notizie e informazioni che rappresentano il 96% del coinvolgimento online negli Stati Uniti e opera anche nel Regno Unito, in Italia, Germania e Francia. NewsGuard valuta ogni sito in base a nove criteri apolitici di pratica giornalistica, tra cui se un sito pubblica ripetutamente contenuti falsi, se corregge o chiarisce regolarmente gli errori e se evita titoli ingannevoli. Per ogni criterio vengono assegnati dei punti ponderati che vengono poi sommati; un punteggio inferiore a 60 vale una valutazione "rossa", mentre un punteggio pari o superiore a 60 vale una valutazione "verde", che indica che il sito è generalmente affidabile.

Launched in March 2018 by media entrepreneur Steven Brill and former Wall Street Journal publisher Gordon Crovitz, NewsGuard provides credibility ratings and detailed “Nutrition Labels” for thousands of news and information websites. NewsGuard rates all the news and information websites that account for 96% of online engagement in the U.S. and also operates in the U.K., Italy, Germany and France. NewsGuard rates each site based on nine apolitical criteria of journalistic practice, including whether a site repeatedly publishes false content, whether it regularly corrects or clarifies errors, and whether it avoids deceptive headlines. It awards weighted points for each criterion and sums them up; a score of less than 60 earns a “red” rating, while 60 and above earns a “green” rating, which indicates it is generally reliable.
