La proposta di Birger Hjørland
English abstract
The contribution explores the relevance of enumerative bibliography, starting from Birger Hjørland’s review of Wayne de Fremery’s book, Cats, carpenters, and accountants: bibliographical foundations of information science. Hjørland underscores the importance of bibliography for information science, emphasizing the crucial role of bibliographers in organizing and preserving knowledge. The Danish scholar’s text offers an interesting synthesis of the relationship between different types of bibliogra- phy (analytical, descriptive, etc.) and enumerative bibliography, along with some insights into its historical evolution, from Paul Otlet to contemporary scholars such as Luigi Balsamo. This contribution aims to present this attempt at a theoretical reevaluation of enumerative bibliography, highlighting its connections with information science and knowledge organization.
