Dalla musealizzazione alla digitalizzazione a testo completo

Abstract

This paper presents the activities undertaken by the Library of the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) in the last five years in order to promote, share and preserve its Rare Book collection consisting of about 1,200 ancient printed books (16th-19th centuries). Completed between 2008-2010, the project The medical-health collection of Rare Books of the library of the Istituto superiore di sanità (16th-19th centuries) from print to online provided the ISS library with two interesting opportunities to give further prominence to this valuable book heritage: • between 2015-2017 the library cooperated with two new born Italian interactive multimedia museums, the Museo di Storia della medicina in Padova and the Museo dell’Istituto superiore di sanità in Rome; • in 2016, thanks to an agreement with the Sistema bibliotecario Sapienza - University of Rome, the library achieved the long-awaited goal of digitalizing the full text of the whole Rare Book collection. The Google Books platform was used for this purpose.
