Abstract

In order to protect a valuable document (books, graphic material, photos) it is important to use boxes that can reduce the effects of mechanical damage and chemi cal degradation. A specific International Standard, ISO 16245, describes the properties of the boxes, which should be realized with high quality cardboards responding to other standards such as ISO 9706. Plastic materials such as polyester or polypropilene must be plasticizer free, they must not release volatile acids, and the Photographic Activity Test, ISO 18916:2007, must be used to determine their quality.
