Biblioteche di ricerca e digital humanities

Maria Cassella

Abstract

Digital humanities is the result of a dynamic dialogue between emerging technology and humanistic inquiry. Academic and research libraries are playing a crucial role in the story and development of digital humanities. From the earliest days, librarians were eager partners on collaborative digitization projects, and now they can be found working with TEI, negotiating text mining rights with researchers and vendors, hosting open access journals, and making room for humanists within their buildings. By taking part in digital humanities projects academic and research librarians also enhance their skills and competencies. The active collaboration of academic libraries in research projects involves another change in priorities, a paradigm shift: from a focus on collections to a f ocus on researchers’ communities.
