Partnership, che passione!

Abstract

In the last ten years publishers have become reliable and strategic partners for university libraries. They have increasingly joined and collaborated with librarians in order to accomplish the needs of development of digital libraries. The libraries-publishers partnerships have evolved in three main directions: the development and implementation of standards, the e-publishing and digitization projects, the digital preservation. The article gives an overview of the main partnership projects between libraries and publishers by highlighting the strengths and benefits of this kind of collaborations. In conclusion the author offers a reflection on the concept and the perspectives of the university library partnerships with the local environment and the society.
