La materialità scomoda del libro d’artista

Abstract

Starting from the analysis of the Fondo di Documentazione on Artist’s Book of the National Central Library of Florence, the study reflects on the approaches for an effective physical management of collections of artist’s books and object-books. Their conservation raises various questions, stimulated by their nature in which the research of numerous artists is condensed with a free use of techniques and materials. References regarding the management and conservation of these objects are lacking, therefore not helping in response to functional planning in preventing deterioration or loss of these often unique materials. Hence the need to give them diversified attention in places historically assigned to the conservation of books.
