La sala studio del Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe degli Uffizi

Abstract

The article draws the reader’s attention to the organisation of a Prints and Drawings Study Room and highlights the fact that it requires a considerable amount of specialised reference material and well-informed staff, making it more similar to a rare books reading room than to a part of a museum. The occasion for this consideration is started off by the author’s experience as an intern at the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Uffizi, as part of the Scuola Vaticana di Biblioteconomia. The paper describes the recently renovated spaces of the study room: the pros and cons of the architectural choices are discussed and a reflection on the term cabinet is included.
