La Biblioteca Angelicum della Pontificia Università S. Tommaso d’Aquino in URBE a Roma

Alfredo Giovanni Broletti

Abstract

The description of the project the “Angelicum’ Library starts from the description of the university and ecclesiastical context in which it is located and then investigates the planning of the library in the librarianship and the performance plans, and in its elaboration in the architectural development. The renovation and adaptation project aims to relate how the continuity of the design phases is strictly connected to the result obtained. Thus the shape generated by the project develops like an organism, relates and adapts to itself and to the surrounding environment. The institutional value, from the point of view of the communicative era, lies perhaps in its multiplicity, it is expressed in that unitary representation of knowledge, in which physical and virtual perspectives intersect. Real space is already defined in the sign forms of architecture, where the immaterial forms of digital technology always find a physical confirmation in the library environment. The collaboration of all the figures involved in the planning activity have (we hope) simplified the answers.
