La Biblioteca Luigi De Gregori del MIUR

Vincenza Iossa

Abstract

Opening rare books collections and digitalizing unique witnesses of Italian education system’s history aim to make real the open access to its heritage. Searching and engaging its community, building and communicating a new vision will enable us not only to survive to the “new real” post Covid-19, but also to act in the Italian social life. “Fountains, not tanks”: these words of Luigi De Gregori, first director of the Library of the Ministry of Education in Rome, became the working program and the new life of this Library. It happened during the Second world war when Luigi De Gregori was asked to create and govern the plan to protect libraries from bombing and distruction. It may happen again now.
